DND Club

Dungeons and Dragons is a game that has a scaffolding structure and you get to fill in the rest. You have how to establish characters, campaign ideas, and guidelines, but your character’s identity, attitude, use of weaponry, spells, and more is up to fate — a dice roll and the many layers of your individual imagination.

This game was introduced to Tyler and Spencer via their older sister Olivia who played with their Uncle Weaver and Aunt Jenny on a trip. Now the game has a solid spot in the Rodden household. The boys have tons of literature on DnD lore, characters, and adventures. This game is hugely supported and nourished by the adults in the house because it can take hours to play and screens just don’t have a place within DnD, it’s all paper, pencil, and brain power.

When we transferred into a public school, Tyler and I were talking about our favorite game: Dungeons and Dragons. Our new friends heard us talking about it and wanted to play. We created a lunchtime club. We went to Ms. Linzel who is the lead teacher at our school. She gave us the paperwork that we had to fill out. We had to say what the club was about and what we were doing. Then, when we finished we had to present our club idea to the leadership class. The leadership class liked our idea and signed off on the club.

The club is going well. We have two small groups right now— because we had two separate sets of goals. Some of us were focused on getting strong and the other group was people who had to learn the basics. “My group [Specer] is focussed on getting strong and that. We built our own city and use the spell of absorption to get stats. I opened up a strong group for more people to play and we can have many small groups with different dungeon masters so everyone can play and get more than one turn a club meeting. At the beginning with 20 people, some people wouldn’t get turns for months and it’s funner seeing everyone get turns and we actually finished a campaign. “

-Spencer

“The club is fun. The last time I was there I built an ion cannon on top of a dome on the city they built. “

-Tyler

“I love DND because it is fun. We can do whatever we want. “

“I love DND because you can do whatever you want. “

They can do whatever they want because they get top to create their own universe for each campaign.

Clubs take funding, so any DND purchases will go to their school’s (unnamed for safety and privacy), ASB to ensure that clubs continue to be outlets for creativity and fun.
