Disney happened, and the memories are pretty legit. This video is just a snippet of the fun and memories made. Luckily his Aunt and Uncle Kehau and Jack set up three day passes. This meant that when Tyler felt tired and it was time to go, there was another day to hit a different part of the park. From Guardians of the Galaxy to getting taken by Storm Troopers and escaping to meeting Groot and Thor— this trip was magical. When it was time to return home, the family stayed in a place where we could nap, swim and horse around in between meals and park trips.
Needless to say, the one-day turn around from the hospital to the parks was a bit much, and in reflection I am including the entry from Katie’s Instagram below.
What a few weeks. Tyler went to sleep on a Friday and woke up Saturday with a lot loss. Off to the hospital, we went and had a few day stay. Meanwhile, his Auntie and Uncle were flying in to give our family the Disneyland week of reprieve of cancer and treatments. Plot twist we got there. Tyler had tremendous swelling in his brain. It is believed from the continuing effects of the radiation treatment he had. Radiation continues to work for weeks after it has been completed. In usual Tyler form, he pivoted and just wanted to get to his cousin Wyatt. We did everything one can do at “the happiest place on earth”. As parents it’s soul-stomping. In five hours time when he went to sleep and awoke to our worlds had yet again been changed. Thankfully after many many days of steroids we gained a tiny bit back. We will take it. Tyler was able to make his @istandwithmypack event which made him so happy. Everything is a blur in time for us but we just kept going and doing. Thankfully with @jacknkehaulani pulling the train it all went smoothly. We got home and had a few more items to check off. There was an @ak_swim_coaches event and Tyler brought all the coaches hats ✅Tyler & Spencer wanted to attend a seminar on climate change ✅ Spencer got to race his go kart 🏁 while Tyler and I watched on. Thursday Tyler started the next wave of treatments. It was a long cruel day for our boy. He requested I make chicken pot pie for dinner and get him a special cupcake ✅ He had discomfort from the lumbar puncture & requested I sleep (sit up all night and stare at him) next to him✅. Yesterday he awoke with more clarity and I felt that sprinkle of hope. Meanwhile we ran to the store we could make “Tyler’s Toffee” for Easter gifts (because why wouldn’t he want to do that)& we called @ashshine_ & sang (terribly) happy birthday together. It’s definitely Spring and I hope the new season continues to give us the faith needed to stay in the place of hope & tremendous gratitude, while we shower our boy with love and stay on the life beam which feels like a gauntlet at times. Thank you for all the continued outreach, love, and prayers. We feel it. ❤️
One major highlight was that on that Saturday, attending his event with ISWMP was possible and fun. Many foster dogs and pet parents met and mingled and old friends got to say hello again.
Tyler continues to unify and spread love. #TeamTyler for the win.
